Advocacy & Issues
The Ohio AGD believes very strongly in advocating for the general dentist on a local, state and national level. The Ohio AGD is the ONLY organization whose primary focus is the general dentist. It is imperative to the advancement of our profession, that AGD members stay informed about upcoming topics of interest.
- The AGD issued communications to government officials as early as March 3, 2020, advocating for sufficient supplies of PPE to be made available to dentists during the COVID crisis as well and seeking to be involved in formulation and implementation of guidelines set forth by FEMA, NIOSH, OSHA, and the CDC relative to how dentists can safely deliver care.
- An action alert was sent to members nationwide asking them to contact their legislators on urgent matters such as clarifying the SBA rules governing the ability to apply for both the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) and the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) simultaneously. Another action alert was sent for member support regarding the replenishment of funding for the PPP and to give dentists the ability to determine the “8 week period” for which the loan proceeds must be used.
- The Ohio AGD sent an Action Alert to its members to urge Ohio lawmakers to support HB 589, the Business Interruption Insurance Legislation. The measure was introduced into the Ohio House by Representatives Jeffery Crossman and John Rogers. If adopted by the General Assembly the bill would prohibited Ohio insurance carriers from excluding losses due to global virus transmission or pandemic.
- The Ohio AGD continues to monitor and support efforts by the Ohio Dental Association in advocating for passage of legislation to increase Medicaid reimbursement rates. In addition, OAGD supports ODA’s lobbying efforts for passage of Senate Bill 148, the “non-covered services” bill.
