Advocacy & Issues

The Ohio AGD believes very strongly in advocating for the general dentist on a local, state and national level.  The Ohio AGD is the ONLY organization whose primary focus is the general dentist.  It is imperative to the advancement of our profession, that AGD members stay informed about upcoming topics of interest.

NATIONAL

The AGD continues its diligent efforts to advocate for all general dentists.  Most recently AGD met with the offices of Senators Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) to discuss sponsoring H.R. 4555, the Oral Health Literacy and Awareness Act.

Also, the $1.5 trillion omnibus spending package recently passed by Congress included several dental priorities such as funding for general and pediatric dentistry residency programs, funding for oral health literacy, and guidance to state Medicaid programs regarding dental audits.

Information on these advocacy efforts and other legislative news can be found on the AGD Capitol Connections website:

OHIO

The Ohio AGD continues to monitor and support efforts by the Ohio Dental Association (ODA) in advocating for passage of legislation to increase Medicaid reimbursement rates. In addition, Ohio AGD supports ODA’s lobbying efforts for passage of House Bill 344, the “non-covered services” bill, as well as opposing any legislation which would allow the introduction of dental therapists in Ohio.
